There's twenty seconds of guitar and harp in the middle of Come On from 1963 that just sizzles - and I can easily imagine the same riff being played from the No Security B stage. These guys are just amazing. | | FINGERPRINT FILE [Chris M] I cross referenced all the tracks on Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb against the least common denominator set of previously available recordings including The Swingin' Pig's Get Satisfaction If You Want as follows: The cover is taken from a very rare (and valuable) 10" German LP called Beat Beat Beat. There is a picture of one these on page 95, of "Das Weissbuch", by Dieter Hoffmann, 1991. Historically, these recordings first surfaced on the Trade Mark of Quality disc titled "Beautiful Delilah" on red vinyl with a rubber stamped cover and Jagger laying on a blanket with no shirt insert. These tracks were described as outtakes on the LP, and the word was spelled as two: "out takes". This may have been one of the first references to such a term. There were also early releases on TMoQ EP's titled "Cops & Robbers" issued on both black and orange vinyl (RS-MAXI-A/B). * Get Satisfaction...If You Want! (TSP-CD-003) ** Rape of the Vaults (RSVP 002 A/B) *** The Decca Years Volume 1 (WPOCM D037-2) # Beautiful Delilah LP (TMQ: RS 507 A/B) ## I Can't Judge The Music by Looking At The Cover EP ### Crackin' Up LP (BEEB C4-06586-A1/B1) & CD (Back Trax 04-88006) @ Get Your Kicks LP (Mona Records M-L 6465-A/B) @@ Beautiful Delilah LP (TMQ: RS 507 A/B) @@@ Meet Me In The Bottom LP (Magic Dwarf MDR-6 A/B) + Don't Lie To Me LP (BP 003)
These tracks have been rebroadcast on several ocassions, which explains the great quality of some of the very early recordings. Westwood One put together a BBC Classic Tracks series for radio broadcast hosted by Nicky Horne. I have information on one of the shows: "BBC Classic Tracks" CD (HPOTO100A) The week of May 30, 1994 The Last Time/You'd Better Move On/Cops and Robbers(mentions that this was one of the first BBC stereo broadcasts)/Fannie Mae/Satisfaction All the tracks on BBBATB have been previously released as indicated. It is a complete package of the known Rolling Stones BBC appearances though. There two songs: Play With Fire and I'm Moving On from the "Crackin' Up" LP, which are listed as BBC, but they are actually Ready Steady Go TV (not radio) from March, 1965. Many of the dates on "Beat Beat Beat..." don't match GSIYW, but the dates on BBBATB are from a researched source, so I'll go with these. The quality is very good to superb mono/stereo. Unlike other IU titles most of these tracks are from tape/CD sources. All the GSIYW tracks are excellent quality, and are found in matching quality on BBBATB. The only known recording of Crackin' Up in circulation prior to "Love You Live" is this BBC take listed. These are great performances by ambitious young lads striving to make it to the top!
[Jaime] An excellent 2cd set with the earliest Live stones stuff I've heard in Excellent Quality! the quality varies between very good and excellent. The back CD cover says: "this 2 cd set comprises the long lost session - recordings the ROLLING STONES made especially for British BBC-Radio between 1963-1965. They are in chrononlogical order and as complete as possible. Every effort was made to track down the best sources, be it from the BBC archives or from avid fans who taped those shows off the radio in the early 60s. This was necessary since the BBC itself erased most of its programmes as in those days they were not considered worthwhile enough for preservation. The tapes were equalised, de noised , de clicked and speed corrected in order to make the sound quality as perfect as can be." And the inside booklet has a full list of BBC sessions '63 - '65. |

The true Stereo tracks include the 5X5 ep, here in the original running order along with all of your favorites, and if you think that songs like 'Time Is On My Side' couldn't get any better, well, you'll just have to listen and judge for yourself! Also gone are the botched up intros to 'Satisfaction' (which had the very beginning faded in due to Decca's 3rd reissue of the German cd-they botched a lot of things up on that one!), and 'Don't Lie To Me'. And overall, the consistency of sound from track to track satisfies! This is the culmination of over 7 years of work and we hope that you'll find this one of the most listenable True Stereo collections ever......" |
