Comcast claims to be moving forward to roll out Internet service on its cable systems in Sonoma County. If you’re in a rural area and you haven’t checked out cable or DSL availability lately, it’s worth a couple of calls. Comcast predicted my area would get cable Internet access in the first quarter of next year, which is a far more optimistic forecast than I expected.

Cable Internet access is usually very speedy, and Comcast is increasing the speeds nationwide as a marketing tool. A few subscribers are getting booted by Comcast for being “bandwidth hogs,” although Comcast refuses to say how much downloading gets them upset. And I believe that in some areas Comcast users are prevented from connecting to their business over a VPN – which is an incredibly awful limitation if you need to do that, but irrelevant otherwise.
