The variety of bad things in the computer world – viruses, worms, adware/spyware, and the like – has me spooked. Computers are going down left and right. Done any backups lately?

Here’s an article about backup choices, including links to the major online services that hold backups of your data – worth considering, although you have to wonder how many will still be in business in a year or two.

Home users or small businesses without a server – go buy an external hard drive from Maxtor (here’s a random example) and install the software that comes with it. You’ll be able to back up your entire hard drive with a single click. Or just drag copies onto it of your documents, your photos, your music, your Quicken data, your Outlook .PST file, or whatever else matters. And don’t forget! You’ll get lots of sympathy if you lose everything – but trust me, an extra copy of your data is better than sympathy.
