Many people feel left out by the world of blogs, unsure how to find blogs to read and completely adrift about how to start writing one.

Want to read some blogs? You could do worse than adding Memeorandum (political blogs) and TechMeme (technology blogs) to your favorites list – they’ll plug you into hundreds of blogs, including many of the most popular ones. And everyone should read Boing Boing regularly – possibly the most popular blog on the Web and deservedly so.

Technorati is the grandaddy of blogs, currently indexing more than 71 million blogs.

There are many online tools to create blogs. This news page is created with Blogger, now owned by Google; serious bloggers more often now turn to WordPress, LiveJournal or several others.

Tumblr is a new blogging tool for beginners, families, and casual users. It’s a free service designed to make it as simple as possible for you to have your own web page for sharing photos, YouTube videos, links, comments, and more. Start a blog! You may not stick with it, your only audience may be your children, but Tumblr is so easy to use that you might surprise yourself and keep it up.

If you want to see what a Tumblr page looks like, I put a few items up at bruceb tumblr. Get blogging!
