Stomp Software is a new name to me. They’ve partnered with Veritas (well-known at the enterprise level) to produce BackupMyPC, the latest iteration of Veritas Backup Exec. It’s designed for individual PCs or small networks at home or office. It backs up entire systems or individual files; it backs up onto tapes, zip drives, CDRs, or hard drives; it can be run manually or set to back up on a regular schedule. And it’s easy to use, too. It’s well worth seventy dollars. (BackupMyPC does not work on servers, just workstations.) Here’s a review of the program. Don’t put off your backup plans! Hard drive crashes are hideous.

The same company has also recently released CD-burning software, RecordNow Max, that looks pretty appealing. I don’t have any hands-on experience with it, but the reviews are positive and the screen shots look very nice. Here’s a review of RecordNow Max. Easy CD Creator has had its share of problems over the years, but it’s behaving itself pretty well on my system now. I don’t feel the need to change, but it’s nice to finally have an alternative.
